Welcome to the DNCC Blog

Greetings – I’m Leah Daughtry, CEO of the DNCC. I’m excited to be one of the first to welcome you to our new blog – and even more excited to say that my very first blog post is happening right here right now on our Convention blog. Let this big step for me be an indication of our commitment to embrace technology and online tools throughout our Convention planning process. I intend to be back as a voice with frequent updates for you via this forum. So bookmark this page, add us to your RSS feed – whatever it is, don’t be a stranger. We want this to be an active conversation. The more we hear from you, the better that dialogue becomes. Until next time……

    Leah,

Back in September there was some controversy in the blogosphere about Fox News providing the pool coverage for the Democratic Convention. The concern seemed to center around Fox as a partisan outlet so why would the Democrats select it to provide photo pool.

I understand that Fox will just be providing camera shots and not editorial content so it doesn’t concern me as much as Fox hosting a Democratic debate. However, I think the DNCC should have anticipated those concerns and lost an opportunity to educate people about why Fox was chosen and how a photo pool works.

    Hi corinnem

The networks make a decision amongst themselves about which network covers what event when it comes to pool coverage. The selection of Fox heading the pool for the 2008 Democratic National Convention is a decision made by the networks and not by the Democratic National Convention Committee. Since this is an internal pool matter, we’re just not able to speak for the them.

That said, I very much appreciate your comment and am looking forward to a lively conversation here on our blog in the months ahead.

    Thanks, Leah.

My main point still stands: A significant opportunity was lost by not clarifying how Fox came to head the photo pool. It’s the little details that will bedevil you ๐Ÿ™‚
